Tara Will Material List

Tara Will’s Materials List

PASTELS: The more the merrier! Whatever you have, some good brands are:
UNISON, DIANE TOWNSEND, TERRY LUDWIG, HENRI ROCHE, GIRAULT, SENNELIER, and SCHMIENKE. More is always better, but you can certainly do with less. Sometimes, it forces us to make color or value choices that are good exercises when we don’t have exactly what we are looking for in the box.

PAPER: I highly recommend Sennelier La Carte. We will not be doing washes, as LACARTE CANNOT GET WET. Not even a speck of water. (The finish will be removed.) This is a very sensitive yet beautiful paper. Please make sure you bring a hard surface to paint on. You can buy sheets of these on Amazon, or Cheap Joes. Any size is fine, whatever you generally prefer. You can get large sheets and paint big or cut smaller or get the pads. I understand that you may have a paper you prefer. Feel free to bring it, but please bring LaCarte.

BRUSHES: I use brushes as erasers on occasion. Don’t bring really nice brushes; they’re sure to be wasted on the sanded paper.

PENS/PENCILS/NOTEBOOK: Please bring a China wax marker. They’re cheap and available online and at most art stores. We will be doing some rough studies prior to painting. Please bring something to do little sketches on/in. If you have greyscale markers, those are good, too. But there is no need to go run out and buy them.

IMAGES: Please bring photo references that you have personally taken. Please do not bring any imagery that is not yours. Take some time before the workshop to go out and explore your interests to have things that inspire you available to work from. This is very important!!

Per Carrie:

  • Bring a standing or tabletop easel and heavy rigid backer board to support La Carte paper, tape, baby wipes/paper towels, etc.

  • Please arrive on the first day of the workshop EARLY - between 8:30-8:50 for set-up

  • Bring sack lunch and beverages each day - refrigerator and microwave available

  • Bring a floor covering for under your easel. I will provide foil “gutters”
    for easels to catch dust

  • Tables/chairs will be provided
